BODY BUTTER VS. LOTION: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
BODY BUTTER VS. LOTION: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

“I already use lotion. Do I need body butter, too?”

You might be wondering that, and honestly, it depends on your skin and what you enjoy using. Both moisturize, but they can feel quite different.

Lotion usually has a lighter, more fluid texture. It spreads easily and tends to absorb quickly, which can be convenient when you’re getting dressed and heading out. If it leaves your skin feeling comfortable, there’s nothing wrong with sticking with it.

Body butter generally has a thicker, richer feel, often from ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, and oils. You might prefer that texture when your skin feels dry or when areas like your elbows and knees need extra attention.

But here’s something worth knowing: not every body butter is made the same. Some are made without water, while others combine water, butters, and oils in a creamy formula. Our Whipped by Setoria body butter contains purified water along with ingredients including shea butter, cocoa butter, and jojoba oil.

So “body butter” doesn’t automatically mean water-free, and “lotion” doesn’t mean it won’t moisturize well. Look at the ingredients and how your skin responds.

You also don’t have to layer both. You might like lotion during warmer weather and a richer moisturizer when it’s cold, or use different textures on different areas.

Whichever you choose, try applying it after bathing while your skin is still slightly damp to help hold onto moisture. If your skin is sensitive, consider a fragrance-free formula and test new products on a small area first.

Your routine should leave your skin feeling comfortable and cared for. There’s no prize for using the most products!

What do you prefer—a lightweight lotion or a rich body butter?

With love,
Setoria 🤎
